When a Charlotte businessman visited a contemporary Anglican church in the heart of London, he was so taken by what he saw that he invited the church’s leader to give a series of talks at his own traditional church in Charlotte.
That visit began a relationship between a thriving London church and a handful of Charlotte families that gradually became a church plant in 2007. That plant is CityChurch.

We believe that church should be …
Real.
God knows everything about us anyway, so we don’t see the point in trying to impress. We believe it’s important to come to God as we are, no matter how messy that might be.
Relational.
God’s desire is to be in relationship with us, so that’s our focus, too. A key part of our mission is to help people connect with God and to encourage them to grow in community.
Religion Free.
We are passionate about connecting with God, not being religious. We want to experience God for who He is, and not reduce Him to a list of rules.
Our mission is to help people . . .
Connect…
Our first priority is always to help people connect with God in a meaningful way, so they can understand first-hand His love and grace for them. We want to help everybody encounter God, learn to hear his voice, and start to walk in relationship with him.
Grow…
We then want to be intentional about encouraging each other to follow Jesus and be transformed by Him. We do this by deepening our understanding of the Bible, gaining an openness to the Spirit, being meaningfully connected to the body, and developing a healthy prayer life.
Release…
Ultimately, we want to be in the business of releasing one another into the gifts and callings God has for us—providing opportunities to identify, explore, and experiment with our gifts, as well as the support to step out and find their healthy expression within the church and beyond.
